FAQs
Why is this centered toward middle school girls?
GalsWhoCode is based primarily for middle-school girls because we want to impart basic coding skills to girls before entering high school, where prior coding knowledge will be very helpful. Additionally, this organization is a starting point for girls a young age to discover their passion for CS.
What challenges do girls face when entering the tech field, and how does our program address them?
As girls continue to enter the tech field, they often face various obstacles, including gender bias and limited representation. We address these challenges by providing a supportive environment where girls can gain foundational CS knowledge. In addition to technical skills, we focus on developing life skills such as resilience and confidence.
How do we inspire girls to pursue their passions for CS after middle school?
After middle school, numerous other computer science related opportunities will open up. They can take various classes and clubs, such as Girls Who Code (the high school program), and participate in more competitions to further their learning. Ultimately, at GalsWhoCode, we will spark the CS interest for middle school girls, and motivate them to continue throughout their lives.
